Fruits That Help Boost Your Mental Health

Do fruits really have the power to be beneficial for your mental health? Certain foods have just the right nutrients that improve your mental health. Some fruits are even used by psychologists as a complement to therapy. Learn how these seven fruits improve your overall health, but most importantly, your mental health. 

A well balanced diet must contain fruit and vegetables that help us feel healthy, awake, and think more clearly. Fruits have the ability to increase our attention span, effectively reducing the risk of depression and mental health issues. 

Many people are skeptical as to how a certain food item can have the power to improve someone’s mental health. Researchers have found that people who eat foods high in probiotic bacteria, which is considered good bacteria, can help reduce anxiety and enhance their mood. Fruits and vegetables contain a lot of minerals, vitamins, and fiber we need to keep us physically and mentally healthy. Here are some of the top fruits associated with good mental health: 

  1. Carrots: Carrots get their orange color from the nutrient beta-carotene, a powerful antioxidant. Studies have shown that people with higher levels of antioxidant carotenoids were less likely to have symptoms of depression.

  1. Avocados: Avocados are full of vitamin K and folate, which help protect your brain against stroke. They also provide a boost to your memory and concentration.

  1. Tomatoes: The source of a tomato’s red hue, lycopene is classified as an all-around beneficial nutrient. One of the many health boosts it provides is in the fight against brain disease. It’s been shown to delay the onset and progression of Alzheimer’s Disease, fighting off cell damage.

  1. Dark Leafy Greens: Spinach and other leafy greens provide your brain with big amounts of folic acid, which has been shown to be a great deterrent to depression. It also helps fight off insomnia, which is heavily linked to mental impairments and can help reduce dementia in older adults.

  1. Grapefruit: Grapefruit contains flavonoids which reduce the risk of depression in middle age. It tackles the death of neurons and increases the stimulation of the brain. 

  1. Berries: A study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found that adding blueberry juice to the diet of older adults improved memory recall and reduced depression symptoms.
